Abstract Objective:To study the change of the urinary N-acetyl-β-D-glucos
aminidase (NAG) activities in the lupus nephritis (LN) patients and its clinical significance. Methods:Serum creatinine and urinary NAG activity measurement were performed in 30 LN patients and 100 controls.Urinary NAG activities were measured by nitrophenol colorimetric analysis technique. Results:Urinary NAG activities in renal sufficiency patients were significantly higher than those of controls;urinary NAG activities in renal insufficiency group of LN patients were significantly higher than those in renal sufficiency group. There were no significant correlation between urinary NAG activities and the serum creatinine. Conclusion:The change of urinary NAG in the lupus nephritis patients suggested that the damage in renal tubular interstitium had taken place in LN patients when they were in the renal sufficiency stage; With the development of the lesion in the glomerular, the degree of renal tubal interstitium damage in LN also increased.
