【Abstract】 Objective To study the corresponding relation of the density-time curve to the blood supply and pathology of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with flow study of electron-beam CT(EBCT) in order to improve the specificity and accuracy of diagnosing hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods Thirty-one patients with liver masses underwent flow study of EBCT after intravenous administration of contrast medium(80-100 ml) at a rate of 6-8 ml/s. EBCT scanning 6 sections for lesion and 13 times for each section during 120 s was obtained. The density-time curve was plotted and each parameter value was measured. Results Various degrees of contrast-enhancement was displayed in 31 cases with HCC, and the patterns of enhancement were different in HCC of less than 5 cm , more than 5 cm and diffuse type (P<0.01). Density-time curves of enhanced masses showed fast rise and drop ,but the mean peak value and rise value were different in HCC of less than 5 cm and more than 5 cm (P<0.01).Conclusions Primary hepatocellular carcinoma exhibits a certain feature during flow study. Different density-time curves reflect presented different pathologic changes and blood supply features of tumors. The specificity and accuracy can be improved with flow study of EBCT.
