[Abstract] Objective To evaluate the role of MR imaging in diagnosing ovarian tumors. Methods Retrospectively analyze the findings on MR scan in 15 cases of ovarian tumors proved by operations and pathology.Six of ovarian cyst,4 of ovarian cystadenoma,2 of ovarian carcinoma,2 of benign ovarian teratoma and 1 of malignant ovarian teratoma were found in this group. Two leiomyomas were also delineated with both one case of ovarian cyst and one case of ovarian cystadenoma. Results Eight cystic tumors and 7 cyst-solid tumors were found according to the MR imaging characteristics.Of 15 cases, smooth margin was revealed in 13 tumors and 2 tumors showed unclear margin. All of 3 malignant tumors showed their cyst-solid characteristics with unclear margin in 2 cases.Hyperintense signal on both T1 weighted and T2 weighted imaging were found in 2/8 cystic tumors and 6 of 8 showed hyperintense signal on T1 weighted imaging and hyperintense signal on T2 weighted imaging.Seven cyst-solid tumors showed mixed signal intense on both T1 and T2 weighted imaging. Conclusion Ovarian tumors are best delineated by MR imaging.According to their MR features, benign and malignant nature of ovarian tumors can be determined.
